Engineering Consulting

We have an extensive background, and can utilize our experience and know-how to get the results you need. Our main focuses comprise data acquisition and analysis of physical testing, noise testing, and vibration testing.

Engineering Consulting Body

Custom Testing

Utilizing our various equipment, ITC can perform many non-standard tests to determine various properties of your product or material. These include fatigue or endurance testing (cycling forces at pre-determined frequencies for a set number of cycles), environmental testing (from -70C to 190C, and up to 95% relative humidity), or proof loading of products to ensure they will meet requirements. Our team of engineers and technicians will work with you to develop a test plan (if you don’t have one already) and determine the best way for us to perform it. Every custom test is an opportunity for a new experience!

Noise Testing

Noise is generally understood as unwanted sound, and most products have specifications for keeping these noise levels under control. ITC can determine the noise levels of your product in various situations and use their analysis equipment and software to identify the source and frequency of the noise, identify and reduce the sound envelope infiltration, and characterize and improve the sound quality and performance. We can also perform more specialized noise testing for situations that require environmental noise or building noise testing and analysis.

Environmental Noise

Environmental noise regulations are established by local and regional authorities.  Environmental noise modeling and analysis is often required when there are changes in transportation routes and traffic patterns, changes in factory use and related transportation systems, or addition or changes in plant equipment.

ITC has the equipment, tools, software, and the expertise to solve environmental noise issues.  ITC can work to measure, characterize, and model the changes in the transport route or plant equipment and suggest and investigate the effectiveness of sound mitigation methods.

Shaker table testing

ITC’s Sentek M4040A shaker table  is capable of performing random vibration, shocks, or sweeps for frequencies of 5-2200 Hz, and up to 100 g’s.  With a universal bolt hole pattern and up to 500 kg’s for payload, our table’s software allows us to test your product for nearly any vibration event it may encounter in the field.

Building Noise

Building regulations mandate the amount of sound transferring between occupied units.  ITC has tools and experience to measure the Apparent Sound Transmission Class (ASTC) of partitions separating units, or the Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of sound absorption solutions. ITC can investigate the building and room envelope to identify areas where sound may be infiltrating by using their sound intensity probe, and review the makeup of the envelope and investigate alternate envelope builds.

Sound quality parameters within the occupied space affect the sound quality. ITC measures the sound and reverberation within the space and determines the Articulation Index values, which correlate with the ability to hear clear speech within the space.

We employ equipment and software from world-leading manufacturers, including Brüel & Kjær and SoundPLAN.

Vibration Testing

Vibrations can cause an uncomfortable environment for your user, or it could spell disaster for your entire product. ITC has the tools, skills, and experience to help you mitigate the damage vibrations in your product may cause. We can either come to you and acquire data at your site, or you can come to ITC and use our shaker table for your design or research and development

On-site vibration testing

Utilizing various accelerometers and data acquisition systems, ITC can measure the total vibration in several locations of your product or area, identify the frequencies measured and compare them to operational limits, and perform modal analysis on the part or assembly to determine how the structural shape and stiffness affect the vibration.

ITC can also passively monitor ground vibrations around areas where heavy construction is occurring, such as pile driving, to ensure that damaging vibrations are not being felt at properties along the periphery. Highly sensitive equipment, such as MRIs, are also affected by environmental vibration, and ITC can install monitoring equipment to ensure vibration levels are acceptable (and alert personnel in the area if they are not).
